With conductor Kari Heinilä, Soloist Rick Margitza (sax)
Reflecting the spirit of modern jazz in post-war New York, the concert pays homage to the best-known works of Charles Mingus (1922–1979). The concert presents jazz classics of the era in the spirit of modernism.
The American tenor saxophonist Rick Margitza (b. 1961) will be heard as the concert’s soloist. Margitza is best known for his connection to the jazz trumpeter Miles Davis, after playing and recording with his band at the end of the 1980s. Rick Margitza was also a guest on Finnish jazz group Trio Töykeät’s first long play (1990), which became a top selling jazz record of the year in Finland after its release.
