• jazz pianist and orchestra director, who founded and conducted UMO Jazz Orchestra from 1975 until his death
• conducted The dance orchestra of Finnish National Broadcasting Company YLE on the 1960′s
• Finnish Big Band Federation, Imatra Big Band Festival and UMO Jazz Orchestra have been organizing Esko Linnavalli Big Band Composition Contest since 2005
