SOLD OUT!
In the fall of 2011, the Club For Five vocal ensemble and UMO will be continuing their hugely succesful ‘A New Take on Tango’ tour which features evergreen tangos by Unto Mononen and Toivo Kärki in new, innovative and entertaining versions.
‘A New Take on Tango’ is a tribute to two legendary Finnish songwriters and will present a new perspective on their music as a highly unconventional tango ensemble – a big band with a five-part vocal ensemble – combine Finnish tangos with anything from jazz, rock, disco and film music. The imaginative arrangements, written by Marzi Nyman and Pessi Levanto among others, take the Finnish tangos on a tour around the world from America to Argentina and from Cuba to Portugal.
Club For Five have previously collaborated with UMO in a programme of music by Jukka Linkola in autumn 2009.
Club For Five
Club For Five is a unique phenomenon on the Finnish musical scene, breaking the boundaries of the human voice. They are an a cappella ensemble of supreme technical capability who have wowed audiences in Finland and abroad. Their music defies categorisation, as their arrangements mix and match anything from jazz, pop and rock to classical. It might be best to describe the style of Club For Five as just ‘Club For Five’!
Although there are no instruments on stage, at a Club For Five concert you can hear anything from an electric guitar to a drum kit. Instead of just imitating instruments, however, the singers combine these effects smoothly with polished ensemble singing and playful music making. The five singers (Maija Sariola, Eeppi Ursin, Jouni Kannisto, Juha Viitala and Tuukka Haapaniemi) put on a show brimming with disarming joy, energy and virtuoso performance.
Duration: 2 x 45 min, intermission
