Markku Veijonsuo has been the leader of the UMO Jazz Orchestra’s trombone section since 1984, with the exception of 2007–2008 when he worked as the recordings producer of the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Veijonsuo has worked as a musician, composer, arranger and conductor of UMO, and has also belonged to UMO’s arts board and commissions. He is a record producer and sound recordist in the field of jazz, pop, rock and classical music. He owns Varistoteles-Studios that specialises in high-quality recordings.
Biography:
2000 — Receives a 12-month grant from the Finnish state.
1999–2001 — Chosen by critics as the trombonist of the year three years in a row.
1997 — The first solo concert.
1994 — Graduates from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.
1984 — Becomes the leader of UMO’s trombone section.
1975 — Starts at Vaasa Big Band.
